Ubani is a licensed attorney and the Pastor of Justice and Care Initiatives at New City Church, a downtown Phoenix church. As the Pastor of Justice and Care, Ubani developed and maintains a five-point initiative focus for the church. Through these initiatives, she equips, trains, and mobilizes the people of New City to administer justice and care for others in the city and maintains the church’s relationships with local community organizations that meet needs in Phoenix.
Prior to going full-time on staff, Ubani practiced law as Deputy Public Advocate and Defender. During her six years in public defense, she represented thousands of under-served, indigent individuals in child welfare and criminal proceedings. In 2016, she was awarded the Rising Star Award by the Arizona Public Defenders Association [APDA], an award given each year to a young attorney for high quality representation and demonstrating a commitment to serving the under-served.
Ubani has participated extensively in public speaking engagements pertaining to children and families and community based self-empowerment. She has presented at the Leadership: Living a Life of Impact seminar, APDA’s Statewide Conference, and the State Bar of Arizona to name a few and is a graduate of the State Bar of Arizona Leadership Institute. In addition to local empowerment, Ubani also focuses on global empowerment through her local Nigerian village organization, Abiriba Communal Improvement Union [A.C.I.U., Inc.], where she has served nationally on the youth executive committee and locally as the secretary for the Arizona chapter.
